An Australian Miscellany

Over a period of seven years I have painted a series of pictures of interesting people and scenes spotted on our annual Australian visits.

Painted in 2015, the piece is entitle “Saturday Afternoon at Point Cartwright”.

The picture measures 60×90 cm and is painted in oils on stretched canvas.

“Kawana Pool Boy” was painted in 2019 from a photo taken of the subject spraying a children water slide at the local leisure centre.

The bright red uniform just glowed against the parched grass background.

“Dickie Beach Lifeguards” was painted in 2016 and is a scene replicated on every beach throughout the eastern seaboard of Australia.

The volunteer lifeguards are members of the countless surf clubs which also act as social centres for seaside communities.

Horse racing plays an important part in Australian life and this study was completed after a visit to our local race track at Corbould Park.

As the Sunshine Coast is systematically submerged in concrete, “BigYellow Taxi” commemorates the construction of the last car park at a semi-wild spot at Golden Beach.
